  11. Well, it's been five months but I've finally released new versions of
  12. kpathsea and the drivers I've modified to use it: dvipsk, dviljk, xdvik.
  13.  
  14. They're in the usual place:
  15.     ftp.cs.umb.edu:pub/tex/{xdvik,dvipsk,dviljk}.tar.gz
  16.     ... and CTAN and its mirrors; see below.
  17. Please use the nearest site, to reduce the load on our old Sparc 1.

  19. Because I've made so many changes, it is virtually certain that there
  20. will be some problems with this release; thus, I will probably be making
  21. another release to fix bugs relatively soon.  Of course, I hope as many
  22. people as possible will try this code, so we can find the bugs!
  23.  
  24. Naturally, I am now working on the next release of web2c to use the new
  25. code.  It will be ready no sooner than a month or two from now; please
  26. don't bother to ask me, as I simply do not know when I will finish it.
  27. I hope someone else can write a patch to web2c 6.1 for the interim
  28. (please send it to me if you do, so I can put it on ftp.cs.umb.edu).

  30. Some people have been curious, so I should mention that I don't bother
  31. to announce updates to lib.tar.gz, src.tar.gz, or the various patches
  32. (in pub/tex/*.help) because new versions are really only useful to
  33. people installing a new TeX system, or who need to fix a particular
  34. problem.  If you're already happily TeX-ing, there's little need to keep
  35. up with the updates.

  43. * Runtime configuration file support; see the manual.
  44. * Both dpi600/cmr10.pk and cmr10.600pk are searched for.
  45. * ls-R matches $TEXMF//latex2e vs. $TEXMF//latex209.
  46. * $TEXMFLOG, if set, specifies a filename for logging successful searches.
  47. * All directory entries beginning with `.' are ignored, not just `.' and `..'.
  48. * Default path for PK and GF fonts includes the mode name.
  49. * ls-R is in $TEXMFROOT instead of hardwired at compile time.
  50. * More debugging flags, and they can be set with client program options.
  51. * If MakeTeX{PK,TFM} fail, or aren't invoked, a file missfont.log is
